EU pledges 1 bn euros of frozen Russian assets to Ukraine defence firms

The EU on Friday pledged to disburse one billion euros ($1.1 billion) from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets to Ukrainian arms companies as part of its support to Kyiv as it fights off Moscow's invasion.

"We have just made available 1 billion euros for the Ukrainian defense industry so that Ukraine could better defend itself," the EU's top diplomat Kaja Kallas said in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv. The funding would "directly support Ukrainian defense companies", she added.

Pakistan says India has brought countries 'closer to major conflict'

Pakistan's foreign ministry spokesman said on Friday that India was to blame for bringing the two nuclear-armed neighbors closer to war.

"It is most unfortunate that India's reckless conduct has brought the two nuclear-armed states closer to a major conflict," Shafqat Ali Khan said in a press briefing in the capital Islamabad. "India's jingoism and war hysteria should be a source of serious concern for the world."

Israel army says opened mobile clinic for Druze in southern Syria

Israel's military said Thursday it opened a mobile medical clinic in southern Syria to support the Druze population, which it has committed to defending in recent weeks.

In footage published by the army, military medical personnel can be seen treating a man with his arm in cast -- all of whom have their faces blurred -- in what appears to be a mobile cabin.

Hamas met Gaza mediators this week but 'no progress'

A Hamas delegation held two meetings with Egyptian and Qatari mediators in Doha this week but they produced no breakthrough in the search for a Gaza truce, sources close to the group said Friday.

"Egyptian officials met twice with a high-level Hamas delegation led by (chief negotiator) Khalil al-Hayya (and) Qatari officials on Wednesday and Thursday in Doha," one source told AFP.

Iran FM to visit Saudi, Qatar ahead of Trump regional tour

Hamas says 'individuals' behind rocket fire at Israel from Lebanon

Palestinian militant group Hamas has blamed "individual" actors for firing rockets towards Israel from Lebanon after it handed over several people, saying it was committed to a Hezbollah-Israel ceasefire.

Hamas claimed attacks on Israel from Lebanon during more than a year of hostilities between Israel and the Palestinian group's Lebanese ally Hezbollah that erupted over the Gaza war and largely ended with a November truce.
